About Kirsten

Island artist Kirsten Bunney has been living and working in Upcountry Maui since 1987. Originally from Australia, her art background includes illustration, album cover design, large scale interior projects and stage design for concert production.

Kirsten combines pen and ink with gouache and watercolor to express the bright, tropical beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Her paintings are gradually woven together with layer upon layer of color and detail. Kirsten's unique sense of style and color has been developed from a mix of cross-cultural influences, particularly time spent living and working in Bali. Her mother and grandfather were both avid painters and colorists.

Kirsten's work has been purchased by the State Foundation for Culture and the Arts in Hawaii and hangs in private collections worldwide.

The Kirsten Bunney Gallery

The gallery is located in Upcountry Maui, just three miles off the Haleakala Highway, in Makawao.

The Gallery is open daily from 11 AM to 4 PM.

Makawao is an historic paniolo town (cowboy hangout.) Makawao's Rodeo General Store is right across the street from us and has any kind of refreshment you may need. Stop by, get a cool drink or excellent food, and come visit us. The beautiful drive Upcountry makes the trip worthwhile.

As the artist and owner, Kirsten offers you a comfortable tour into her colorful world of art. Please come see us . The Gallery is open daily from 11 AM to 4 PM. Or you may contact us using the information below.

Directions:
From South & West: Take Highway 380 from Lahaina/Kaanapali or Highway 311 from Kihei/Wailea toward the airport. Turn right (East) onto Hana Highway (36) and continue for 2 miles. Turn right at the traffic light onto Haleakala Highway (37). Continue for 7.2 miles. Turn left at the traffic light onto Makawao Avenue (365.) Continue 1.7 miles to its junction with Baldwin Avenue (390.) Turn left downhill. The Gallery is on your left just across from the Rodeo General Store.

From Haiku & Hana; Turn left onto Baldwin Avenue at the traffic light in Paia. Continue approximately 7 miles until you enter the town of Makawao. The Gallery is on your right just across from the Rodeo General Store.
